In the future natural resources such as coal and oil will be used up. How can we save on resources? What alternative forms of energy are available?
The media are flooded with the news and predictions about the drying up of fossil fuel resources and the impending danger humanity is going to face. These days, much money and time are spent on exploring newer ways to create energy and on preserving the remaining fossil fuel resources.
There is a lot to do to save fossil fuels. The first and foremost way is to develop energy-efficient machinery which will help cut down the use of fossil fuels. Also, the burning of fuels can be controlled by controlling the use of private vehicles and promoting public transport. Yet another way is to shift to other alternative sources of energy that are safer and renewable. For example, by promoting the use of solar panels, solar energy can be utilized, which, in no way, is going to get drained.
Many newer and safer ways to produce energy are found by scientists. Some of them include wind power, sunlight, and biogas. Though these all are safe, pollution-free, and do not get exhausted, they all have their own demerits. For instance, energy from wind can be generated only from certain sites where there is plenty of wind. Similarly, solar energy may not be available throughout the year as the availability of sunlight may vary according to season.
In total, it can be said that though the issue has been chewed again and again by the science fraternity, nothing material has been achieved. Hence, it becomes one of the most important needs of the hour.
