Marriage is an old social institution and it has no value in modern societies. Do you agree or disagree?

The power of marriage as a social institution is on shaking grounds. Traditionally, marriage allows sexual consummation and cohabitation of individuals though in different societies it has different forms like monogamy, polygamy, and polyandry. However, a section in society this day argues that marriage, as a social institution, is old-fashioned and is no more tenable. In my personal opinion, those who think that marriage is outdated are living in denial.

The first and most important function of marriage is the consummation of sex. The bond of marriage forces people to be sincere to their sex partner and this helps prevent sexual atrocities in society. As everybody knows, the spread of life-threatening diseases like AIDS was the direct result of the liberalization of sex. The only cure modern medicine could find was to suggest people have sex with a single partner. This shows that the nuptial knot is not a ridiculous idea of an eccentric, but is highly necessary for the survival of the human race.

Yet another major function of marriage is procreation and protection of offspring. Children born out of marriage bonds are looked after till they attain maturity by their parents. It has been proved time and again that the presence of both father and mother is highly necessary during the early stages of development and those children who do not get proper parental care lack essential social skills and tend to become delinquents.

In total, it becomes evident that marriage, as a social institution, has got both social and biological reasons to support, which no one can deny.
