Should governments spend more money on improving roads and highways, or should governments spend more money on improving public transportation (buses, trains, subways)? Why? Use specific reasons and details to develop your essay.
Many people believe that governments should spend more money on improving roads and highways. However, other people think that more money should be spent on improving public transportation. Personally, I think that both of these opinions have their advantages and disadvantages.
The first reason for improving public transportation is overpopulation. The number of cars is rising dramatically. As a result of this, the pollution of air is increasing which leads to irreversible aftereffects such as the presence of acid rains and different kinds of human diseases. Also, the roadworthiness of vehicles also has a role in accidents. So, improving public transportation will reduce pollution and accidents. People will feel more secure in this case. Moreover, it will save time and people’s money as one does not have to pay for car insurance, repair, and oil change.
However, despite all these advantages, this decision has a few disadvantages. To control pollution and accidents, roads should also be in good condition. In many cases, it is the poor maintenance of roads that leads to serious accidents. So, it is highly necessary to have wide and well-maintained roads with proper signal systems and intersections. So, spending much on public transport ignoring the roads and highways will not yield good results.
Finally, I think that governments should spend money on improving public transportation as well as roads and highways because any solution that keeps either of them out is no longer tenable.
